Scarborough Arches

Decorative arches adjacent to the Scarborough Station car park were damaged following a vehicle strike, causing the wall to move and the arch springing to be compromised, thus requiring reconstruction.

Client: Neary Construction
Duration: March 2019 - April 2019
Discipline: Structures

Scarborough railway station is a Grade II listed station serving the seaside town of Scarborough, North Yorkshire. FJD Consulting provided a temporary works solution for three of the five masonry arches to ensure the remaining arches remained stable whilst the damaged arches were deconstructed and rebuilt.

FJD Consulting developed a solution comprising ‘RMD Kwikform’ to enable repairs to be carried out sympathetically with the ornate appearance of the structure. This system provided robust support but also provided access for safe phased reconstruction activities. Similarly, the impact the works had on the public was minimised, enabling public footways to remain open.

The arches were successfully rebuilt and will continue to be an attractive feature within the town of Scarborough.
